Our Club will be filling bags with open oyster shells to be used later this coming summer to create new oyster habitat areas, thereby enhancing the area’s oyster population by encouraging the growth of baby oyster spat, as well as protecting the adjacent shoreline from erosion.
We will meet at Fort Johnson at 8:30 am in order to get our briefing and be ready to execute bagging at 9:00 am. This will only be a 2 hour effort and will end at 11:00 am. Our goal is to fill 100 bags in that two-hour time frame.
This environmental project is a part of the South Carolina Oyster Recycling and Enhancement Program (SCORE). SCORE is a community-based habitat restoration and monitoring program of the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR).
