Chief Mullen was the club guest speaker and talked thoughtfully and openly about the challenges being faced in regard to community and law enforcement relations. He talked about his work with the Charleston Illumination Project, which is set to release an outline for 85 different strategies to help build trust between the  police and the community next week.

He recommended to us all, if we are wondering what we can do to start helping this effort today, we can 1) say “thank you” to police officers when you see them to encourage them in the difficult work that they do, and 2) give feedback about our personal experiences, positive or negative, whenever we, as citizens, have an encounter with a law enforcement officer.
