Colonel Joseph W. Trez, USA (Retired)

Colonel Joseph W. Trez, USA (Retired), graduated from The Citadel in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and a commission as an infantry officer in the U.S. Army. His twenty-six year active duty military career included infantry command at every level from platoon through brigade. He served with the 4th Infantry Division in Vietnam, two tours of duty with both the 82nd Airborne Division and the 7th Infantry Division (Light), and he commanded the United States Army Training Center at Fort Benning, Georgia. He also served as a staff officer from the battalion level to service with the Department of the Army Staff in the Pentagon. He is a combat veteran and a graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College and the U.S. Army War College.

He returned to his alma mater to receive a Master’s degree in Business Administration in 1978. He then served as an Assistant Professor of Military Science and TAC officer in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s. In 1994, he returned to The Citadel as a Colonel to assume duties as the Professor of Military Science and Commandant of Cadets.

After retirement from the U. S. Army in 1995, he remained at The Citadel where he consecutively served for the next seventeen years as the Commandant of Cadets, Special Assistant to the President, Executive Assistant to the President, and Director of The Citadel Staff.

On 1 July 2012, he assumed his current duties as the Executive Director of the Krause Center for Leadership and Ethics.
