Mr. Pearce is a partner and corporate attorney with Smith Moore Leatherwood LLP in their Charleston, SC. office. He has over 27 years of experience advising businesses on corporate strategy, mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and other business and legal matters. He also serves as outside general counsel to several growth companies and currently spends a good portion of his time advising a publicly-traded company.
Mr. Pearce authored the technology column “CyberWatch” for 12 years and currently writes a bi-weekly column on business, legal and political issues entitled “The General Counsel.” He has served as president for several family-owned companies including operations for an arena football team, a home-building business and a capital management business.
Mr. Pearce has experience as a business-law adjunct professor and speaker. He is the former chairman of the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce and has founded/co-founded several entrepreneur-oriented programs including the statewide South Carolina FastTrac program, ExecNet, New Ideas contest and ThinkTEC.
Mr. Pearce is currently on the Board of Directors of AAA Carolinas, the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce, the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce, New Carolina (cluster development), Charleston Regional Development Alliance, World Trade Center-Charleston, Trident Technical College Foundation and the South Carolina Endowed Chairs-SmartState board.
Mr. Pearce holds JD and MBA degrees from the University of South Carolina and a degree in economics from Washington and Lee University.
